“If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!”
Psalms 91:9-13 NLT
The key point here is ‘If you make’, the decision to ha e God as our protector, Defence, strength, is ours to make. We have to choose Him above all, we have to continue to choose Him.
When we choose God, not only does God protect us, but he gives us the power to destroy the forces that come against us. Tread on the lion and the cobra. Trample on the great lion and the serpent. Tread and trample are action words—now we are taking the fight to our enemies. (Remember, our enemies are spiritual forces, not the people we see who may be persecuting us.) Because God is with us and his angels are protecting us, even the “gates of hell” will not prevail against us. The size of our enemy doesn’t matter, because our victory comes through the power and authority of the Most High God.
We win because He is, not because we are!
